Brissie pop-up and heads up

There’s a little, sneaky bit of anime on your Brissie cinema screens currently, in the form of the Palace Centro’s Pop-up Manga Film Fest. So they may not know the difference between manga and anime, but that’s no reason not to go and check out their final weekend comprising of From Up on Poppy Hill on Friday night (with English subs) or, if you have some little people whom you’re trying to induct into all things J-culture, the classic and delightful Kiki’s Delivery Service in English on Saturday. Personally, I’m wondering if the Palace site’s reference to “Volume 1” means that we can expect to see more anime features in the coming months, something that, whether they refer to it as manga or not, will be entirely welcome.

And speaking of welcome sights, just a couple of weeks away is the second installment of the epic Berserk reboot. The glossy and violent Berserk Golden Age Arc 2: The Battle for Doldrey hits the Dendy Portside screen in a Reel Anime special event brought to you by, of course, the mighty Madman on July 7 at 3pm, so get your tickets now!
