This week in cinemas: ‘The Raid 2’

The Raid 2 (Australian Poster)
Alright, so everyone who reads Heroic Cinema regularly knows this one is due out soon; we’ve posted trailers, given away double passes…. but this week’s the week.

Indonesian martial arts film The Raid 2: Berandal (Indonesian for “Thug”, according to Wikipedia) arrives in Australian cinemas this Friday, March 28, and it looks like it’ll make a lot of action cinema fans sit up and take notice.

Directed by Gareth Evans, it’s his follow-up to low-budget locked-building actioner The Raid, which we here at HC were quite impressed by: here’s our review and an interview with the director. Returning for this pic is star Iko Uwais, supporting actors Yayan Ruhian (in a different role!) and Donny Alamsyah. Joining them is a much larger — and more international — cast, including Japanese actors Ryuhei Matsuda, Kenichi Endo and Kazuki Kitamura.

The film picks up right where the first one left off, with Rama (Iko Uwais) entering the criminal underworld itself, infiltrating a Jakarta criminal gang as an undercover agent. Viewers should expect a great deal of violence, so don’t say you haven’t been warned. It is, after all, a film containing a character identified as ‘Hammer Girl’.

Here’s the trailer again:
