The premise is dodgy – older guy has arranged marriage with teenager – but I thought it might have some saving graces. I mean, the older guy is Ekin Cheng, and he was a teen idol himself as recently as Legend of Speed, and the teenager was Charlene Choi, who really excelled in her debut Funeral March.

Alas, sometimes movies have no saving graces.

Just One Look (2002)

This hidden gem is easily one of the best Hong Kong releases for 2002. Get over that appalling bright blue poster that screams “Twins on summer holiday!”, and you’ll be well rewarded.

Good Times, Bed Times (2003)

OK, this isn’t so much a movie but a series of gags, some good some bad, strung together with a loose narrative. Written by Chan Hing Kar and directed by Patrick Leung, it is the team who brought you La Brassiere and its follow up Mighty Baby. Unfortunately Good Times, Bed Times is more the puerile Mighty Baby than the snappy La Brassiere. With a title like Funeral March, you can hardly expect it to be cheery and uplifting and boy does it not disappoint in the tragedy department.

Kwun Yi [Charlene Choi] is a wealthy cancer patient, convinced that she will die soon.
