SYDNEY JAPANIME 02 Day 03:
ESCAFLOWNE We were in for a long haul tonight and again found the best seating we could because we were going to be there for four hours! Ah.. this is classic anime of old with beautiful fantasy elements, a strong narrative and gorgeous animation. Lip-smackingly good.  I haven’t watched the series and I sense there is a lot more history behind the characters but does it matter? It certainly didn’t dampen my enjoyment as I watched the story of Hitomi, who gets her wish of being transported to another world come true – not only is she transported to war-torn Gaea, she becomes a subject of a Gaean prophecy. All this is unfurled with sweeping strokes of spirited action right from the word go. A fantastic at times bloodthirsty adventure, the action and the characterisation are undeniably engrossing.  Another to add to my shopping list!
COWBOY BEBOP This film is hot. Spike Spiegel is hot, the music is hot, the whole crew is hot – yes, even the corgi! The whole damn thing is so hot it could give you a fever. Anime’s crème de la creme. Watched it, loved it and savoured it. If it was an ice-cream, I wouldn’t throw away the paddle stick – I would keep it and take it with me to the grave. Enough said.
