A SAPFF Primer
Folks, it's that time of year again. Yes that's right, the time of the Sydney Asia Pacific Film Festival is nigh and there are some prime goodies SAPFF directors have selected for this year's festival. I'm damn excited about this year's festival because:
- I went to last year's festival and had a ball - the flicks were ace, the people were tops and the vibe was great!
- A new venue this year at the fine Dendy cinemas at Circular Quay and Martin Place.
- This year's program seems to be filled with tempting morsels as well! Scanning the program, it seems there are films from every nook of the Asia Pacific region - us included!
- Short Soup is back! Last year, this was one of the highlights of festival for me so I can't wait to see what talented Asian Australian filmmakers have in store for us. If you are budding Asian Australian filmmaker - then you should check out what's out there - perhaps even enter a film for next year's competition? There is a cash prize…
- If you are into swapping opinions, there are free interesting seminars and a free screening of the Short Soup winners on 16 August
- Chris Doyle is festival guest. Nuff said!

Alright - some teasers to whet your appetite:
Happy Times: Zhang Yi Mou's latest and it's been a while since I've seen his beautiful work on the big screen and it's opening the festival.
Heart's Desire: a Bollywood film and about time! I expect the audience to shimmy seductively out of the cinema with this one. Partly shot in Sydney so we can all do a bit of landmark spotting as we view the film.
Dead or Alive 1, 2: If you caught The Happiness of the Katakuris at the Sydney Film Festival and liked it, here's a Miike double whammy for you!
