Synopsis:
The Mamiya family are seeking a husband for their daughter, Noriko. But Noriko, played by the extraordinary Setsuko Hara, is a modern woman and has ideas of her own. She is not particularly enthusiastic about marrying-even mocking her married friends-but, when her brother proposes a potential suitor, she impulsively chooses a local widower. This simultaneously delights and disappoints her family, and affects each of their lives tremendously. |
