Synopsis:

Parisian electro-duo Daft Punk combine with legendary Japanese animator Leiji Matsumoto (Albator) in this hour-long visual and aural extravaganza. Its simple plot - four musicians from another galaxy are kidnapped by a evil manager to ultimately become the biggest band on earth - is essentially a ruse to bombard the audience with a kaleidoscope of colour and pounding beats.

Review:

Two things stand out about this film. The first is the colour: there's no tasteful restraint here, no refusal to use anything bolder than beige. It's the result you'd get if you gave a five-year-old a lot of red cordial and then a full palette. It's gorgeous.

The second is the dialogue. Well, when I say dialogue, what I really mean is absence of dialogue. Total absence. Not one word in the whole film. Does it hinder the plot? Not in the slightest. The story is conveyed quite adequately by the visuals, combined with the constant soundtrack, by Parisian duo Daft Punk. Music underscores the action and highlights emotions, while the animation tells the rest of the story.

And what a story it is: the super-group kidnapped from their home galaxy by an evil manager (and you thought they were all evil...) to aid him in his quest for domination of the universe. It's everything it ought to be, and more, with icing on top. There's thrills, there's spills, there's romance and spacecraft and gothic mansions. See it while you can.
