Synopsis:

Li plays legendary folk hero Wong Fei Hong, a late 19th century southern Chinese healer and kung fu master. In order to instil a sense of national unity and as a means to show off the strength of the Chinese people at a time when the nation is ravaged by foreign powers, the Empress Dowager orders a lion-dance competition in the capital. Far from uniting her subjects, the competition causes conflict among the different gangs and martial arts factions. Wong Fei Hung and his fiancée visit Peking. There, he tries to mediate and stop the internal squabbles. In the meantime, Wong discovers a plot by a Russian - who is really an agent for the Japanese - to assassinate a Chinese general. The objective is to cause chaos in China and allow foreign nations to further exploit China.
