Brent Houghton's Top Ten Hong Kong Movies
As for my HK top ten, that's a tough one. Let's see how we go - no order
here.
1. DRUNKEN MASTER 2
This film has a strong story, some great action sequences, and, as far as I'm concerned,
is the last truly great Jackie Chan film.
2. ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA 2
I'm a sucker for good fights based around complex structures, and the Donnie Yen
showdown has heaps of cool 'power' dolly shots.
3. THE KILLER
Poetry.
4. HARDBOILED
John Woo's last great film (although I have high hopes for MI2).
5. BURNING PARADISE
Great scenario, the confusion of loyalty between brother and faith.
6. HIGH RISK
A guilty pleasure.
7. BURNING AMBITION
The first HK action film I ever saw, courtesy of Mark
Savage, this film forever changed my life.
8. CHINESE GHOST STORY 2
Very well crafted entertainment.
9. BLACK MASK
This film has some fantastic sequences, and a great plot.
10. POLICE STORY 2
An oldie but a goodie, the fight in the playground is still one of the best fights ever
put to film.

Australian film shot in a Hong Kong style. Brent went on to work on First Strike,
Mr Nice Guy, Who Am I? and Once Upon a Time in China and America. He has
since formed the production company Furious Films in conjunction with Huntsman

currently gathering funding. For more information, see the Furious Films website.
