Our own John Snadden dropped me a line to remind me that new Hong Kong getaway driver film Motorway has opened in cinemas across Australia, and it’s from perennial Heroic Cinema favourite directors Johnnie To and Soi Cheang. John writes:

Bordwell’s “Planet Hong Kong”
So, I’m one of the teeming millions that picked up the new iPad last week, and its amazing screen propelled me into looking for books to read on it. If you’re in the same situation, I hugely recommend picking up the PDF version of David Bordwell’s excellent book Planet Hong Kong — if you haven’t seen the original version, it’s a wonderful overview of HK cinema by film theorist, professor, prodigious blogger and HK cinema fan David Bordwell.

Big films screening at the KCO for March (Sydney)
Just a quick note for readers in Sydney — as part of their Cinema on the Park series, the Korean Cultural Office have dubbed this month’s programme ‘X-treme Korea’, and they’re showing a bunch of great stuff. Several of these screened at festivals last year, so if you missed out, now’s your chance to catch one for free!

KCO’s final film for 2011: ‘He’s on Duty’ (Sydney)
Our friends at the Korean Cultural Office in Sydney (who ran this year’s fantastic KOFFIA festival) are showing their final film tomorrow (Thursday 22nd) evening in this year’s Cinema On The Park programme. It’s open to the public and free, so if you have the evening free, why not go along and check it out?
