I’m not sure I’m really qualified to ‘properly’ review Wicked City. I haven’t watched much anime. I can’t discuss styles of animation. I definitely can’t compare this film’s examples of wrinkled-brown-midget sex with any other’s. Also, I don’t really like it when I think I know what I’m looking at only I don’t because now its got teeth and… eugh.

Demonic gang rape doesn’t really give me a great deal of joy either. I’m generally fairly ambivalent about animated characters copping it off with one-another, but frankly… well, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, but a tentacle is never just a tentacle.

Wicked City has all these things, so why am I about to score it an 8 out of 10? Because, tentacles or no, this film is damn cool. It takes a neat little premise (Demons! Humans! Killing each other!) and develops it into just enough plot (Demons! Humans! Killing each other… for a reason!) to sustain 80 minutes of stylish action and atmosphere. I may not know anime, but I know what I like — and I like this!

8 bleeding statues out of 10.
