This week in cinemas: Heist film ‘The Thieves’ (South Korea)

Opening this Thursday across the country is South Korean heist film The Thieves, which has recently become the highest-grossing film in Korea ever, stealing the title (hah!) from 2006’s The Host. In The Thieves, a gang of Korean and Chinese thieves plot to steal a fabulous diamond necklace in Macau, only to have things go awry when it comes time to execute their plan.

The film is directed by Choi Dung-hun and has a star-studded ensemble cast: from Korea, Kim Yun-seok (The Yellow Sea), Kim Hye-su (from the director’s second film, Tazza: The High Rollers), Lee Jung-jae (Il Mare), Jeon Ji-hyun (My Sassy Girl), veteran actress Kim Hae-sook, Oh Dal-soo (Oldboy) and TV actor Kim Soo-hyun.

Joining them from Chinese cinema are Hong Kong veteran Simon Yam, Derek Tsang and Angelica Lee.

Here’s a trailer:

It’s screening from 18 October in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide — see the Dream Movie page for the film for details!
