ACMI Melbourne: “Focus on Linda Lin Dai”

I’ve only just seen this update from SBS’s film news, so my apologies on the lack of lead time on this post; still, I thought some HC readers might be interested.

Melbourne’s Australian Centre for the Moving Image are running their retrospective, Focus on Linda Lin Dai from today until February 28. Lin Dai was one of the brightest stars of Hong Kong cinema from the 50s and 60s, most prominently with Shaw Brothers, and ACMI are bringing a bunch … (read more)

LAPUTA: Castle in the Sky Screening in Sydney

While anime fans in Brisbane and Melbourne are being treated with special screenings of anime classics, those living in Sydney no longer have to feel left out! Studio Ghibli comes to Brisbane’s Palace Centro

In case you Brisneylanders out there haven’t heard, mid-February to mid-March sees the Palace Centro down on James Street in New Farm screening Ghibli classics. If you’ve never seen some of Miyazaki’s best works – like Laputa Castle in the Sky or Princess Mononoke – on the big screen, now’s your chance! And even if you have, it’s no hardship to see them again, right? No, I didn’t think so.

AIFF 2011 Coming Soon

Late Feb brings festival season to Adelaide, and the program is huge. I’ve not had a chance to look over the full list (we’ll try and write up a preview shortly!) but a few things that fall squarely into Heroic Cinema’s purview jump out of the list at me:

Shaolin comes to Australian cinemas

For those of you out there that haven’t been following Dream Movie Australia’s website/twitter/facebook, we’ve got some exciting news.

Benny Chan (New Police Story) has directed this decade’s first Shaolin-themed kungfu film film — snappily called Shaolin — and DMA have it in Australian cinemas from this Thursday.
